About Us

The Corporate Environmental Enforcement Council (CEEC) is the only cross-industry coalition where company legal, environmental & governmental affairs professionals can interact and benchmark environmental enforcement issues and policies that impact each of us on a daily basis. CEEC activities include:

  • Addressing significant environmental enforcement issues in the regulatory, legislative and judicial contexts.
  • Maintaining regular communications with EPA, DOJ, Administration and key state enforcement officials, which allows for members first-hand knowledge of enforcement trends and developments, as well as an informal means of providing input on key issues.
  • Regularly providing, through the services of CEEC’s Counsel, Troutman Sanders, CEEC members with written legal “alerts” on key enforcement activities and judicial decisions, with a particular focus on the likely impacts on industry. These range, by way of example, from the intricacies of EPA’s position with respect to release reporting, to defending against citizen suits, to an analysis of EPA’s overfiling in specific cases.
  • Filing Amicus briefs in cases presenting key enforcement issues.
  • Maintaining bipartisan contacts with key congressional staff regarding environmental enforcement issues. CEEC has worked effectively in a bipartisan manner to provide House and Senate staff with counsel and information on environmental enforcement issues.
  • Addressing the practical needs of its members, CEEC provides updates with respect to environmental enforcement developments, as well as a forum to benchmark practices utilized by others in industry to minimize potential environmental liabilities.
  • Addressing international environmental enforcement issues.
